Today I was lucky enough to buy a ticket to see Paul Simon at First Ave, which, for those of you who don’t live in the Twin Cities, is an unreasonably small venue for someone like Paul Simon. So, I’m excited and all and I’m listening to my favorite version of “America” ( okay, besides this one) off of Live Rhymin’. My two favorite parts of this recording:
1. Paul’s response to the audience member that shouts “say a few words”
2. Trying to guess where this live take could have possible been recorded, based on the audience’s confusing insistence on clapping at every geographic location/city mentioned in the song: (It seems like this show must’ve taken place either in Michigan state or somewhere along the New Jersey Turnpike)
