Seriously Anti Records? After the surprisingly great album that came from Mavis Staple’s and Jeff Tweedy’s collaboration last year, you’re going to team up Booker T. Jones with Sharon Jones and Matt freaking Berninger? I wouldn’t be playing the whole “this is so transparently an industry-forced collaboration shamelessly targeting a Pitchfork readership that has suddenly decided ‘soul music’ is cool” card if the song wasn’t just outstandingly awful. Really Matt Berninger, you’re representing Memphis? I don’t want to know what’s next if this Booker T. record (which features The Roots and Yim Yames, by the way) sells well. Maybe Dr. Dog will team up with Tom Waits and record an album of recently discovered Otis Redding lyrics?
